Coaching Packages for Fiction and Memoir
Let’s have a conversation about your book coaching needs!
Below are the various packages I offer for fiction and narrative memoir writers. But before you decide which is right for you, we should talk. Just complete the form at the link to the right, and I’ll get in touch with you to set up a no-obligation Zoom call to discuss your project.
Fiction or Memoir Blueprint Program
Developed by Book Coach Jennie Nash to Help Writers Nail the Fundamentals of Their Story.
The Blueprint Program is a revolutionary way to make sure the fundamentals of your project are in place, whether you haven’t started writing yet or have finished a first draft. You complete exercises that help you make sure you’ve got an overall point, that the scenes of your story (memoir or fiction) are connected in a cause and effect trajectory that creates narrative drive, that it all starts and ends in the right places—and so much more.
The program includes an onboarding call and 3 deadlines with half-hour coaching calls. Average completion time of the program is 9 weeks.
Full Fiction or Memoir Manuscript Review
Similar to a developmental edit, designed to focus on the big-picture strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript.
Looking for an expert to review your manuscript as a whole, to help identify its strengths and weaknesses and offer guidance about what to do next? This full manuscript review is equivalent to a top-line developmental edit. Although I am an avid reader of many different genres, there are a few that I do not coach:
- Anything with excessive violence, especially violence against women
I am part of a network of coaches, though, and could probably direct you to someone who coaches the genres I don’t.
CAVEAT: If you’re looking for reassurance or praise, someone to tell you your manuscript is polished and ready as it is, I am most likely not that person. I will always be honest, but kind. I have yet to review a manuscript that really was publication-ready and that had no big issues. Although opinions can differ, of course, my read is based on extensive knowledge, experience, and training.
If you’re willing to accept constructive feedback, I’ll read your manuscript carefully and provide a minimum 2-page editorial letter that highlights what you’re doing right and what needs some work. I’ll also recommend next steps and offer suggestions about ways to strengthen the manuscript. And I’ll do it not only with professionalism, but with kindness and respect for you and your work.
12 Deadlines of Fiction or Memoir Book Coaching
A cheerleader, accountability buddy, and expert editor by your side as you draft your manuscript.
This program for writers drafting a novel or a narrative memoir is a collaborative relationship built on trust and mutual respect. The program is tailored to your individual needs. Book coaching can help at the beginning of a project, when you’re stuck in the middle of a manuscript and you don’t know where to go, and after you’ve completed a fiction or memoir manuscript that you’re ready to dig into and revise.
This package starts with the Blueprint Program and then progresses to deadlines where you submit pages (up to 25 each deadline). It includes an hour-long intake call, and 12 deadlines with 12 half-hour coaching calls.
Fiction or Memoir Revision Package
“Working with Susanne to develop a blueprint for my memoir was a great investment. Susanne was very skillful in pulling me back to a grounding place so I could better express my healing roadmap in a concrete way. If you have a story to tell and are looking for a kind but firm disciplined hand to guide you, them I recommend you get in touch with her. “
“Susanne’s 6-week Blueprint workshop has been invaluable to bringing my story concept to life. Each deadline challenged me to think about the ‘bigger picture’ when writing my first drafts. Susanne’s programs are great resources for writers of any level, and I can’t wait to continue working with her on this and future projects.”
Because typing “The End” is just the beginning.
You’ve got a finished manuscript—yay! But you know it still needs work. Either you’ve had beta reader feedback that points out specific problems, or you’ve been querying and gotten nowhere, or you know in your gut that typing “the end” on the manuscript doesn’t mean it’s polished and ready to go. This is a great time to get some coaching to help focus you on the big-picture revisions, as well as identify any plot holes or inconsistencies.
My revision package consists of two parts:
- Manuscript review (2-3 weeks, depending on the length of the manuscript): I’ll read the entire manuscript and prepare an editorial letter that describes the strengths and weaknesses I’ve found in your work, with suggestions of how to tackle the revisions—what’s most important.
- Revision coaching: We work together through six deadlines (12-18 weeks) to start with (additional deadlines can be added a la carte if necessary) to get your manuscript revised or rewritten, depending on the recommendations from the manuscript review.
Package price is for manuscripts up to 75,000 words. Longer manuscripts will be quoted on request.
